Third Conference on:
Accountability and Transparency
and its role in developing a Gulf Economy
Muscat, Sultanate of Oman - Saturday - Sunday 21/22 March 200

The Omani Economic Association, with participation of the Gulf Economic Association, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and The Arab Region Parliamentarians against Corruption (ARPAC), intends to organize its third conference in Muscat on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 March 2009 on Accountability and Transparency and its role in developing a Gulf Economy. It is evident, with the fluctuation of the global financial situation, that the implementation of Accountability and Transparency has become more persistent as both constitute essential factors in reinforcing integrity, establishing efficient and competent management for both public and private institutions, and consolidating the basis of human development. Transparency and Accountability are in fact one face of the same coin. Accountability can not be achieved without transparency and transparency would be of no value were there no accountability.

Objective of the Conference:

1. To manifest the relationship between accountability and transparency and their relation with achieving human development
2. To diagnose challenges facing Gulf economies in light of the international financial markets collapse, and the role of integrity in enhancing economic efficiency and growth, while reinforcing the investment environment and investor trust
3. To manifest legal, institutional and organizational frameworks of local laws and international agreements in order to reinforce transparency and accountability
4. To benefit from experience of other countries and international organizations in the field of transparency and accountability
